Coming to San Fermin Fiesta this year?  A visit to San Fermin is a once-in-a-lifetime MUST. This is an unequalled experience for the adventurous who are ready to get loose and have some fun. Come to Heart of Pamplona for unique and out-of-the-box experiences and make your destination a non-traditional one where you get a hands-on “with the locals” experience.

What is the Fiesta? This is a non-stop nine-day festival that will both capture your heart and cultivate your soul. It will bedazzle your conception of how far a Fiesta can go. This might sound like hyperbole, but just ask our international crowd who come year after year, and have become, as the locals say ‘true San Fermineros’. It is unlike any other Fiesta in the world.

AN UNPARELLELED EXPERIENCE

THE OPENING CEREMONY

This experience is Heart of Pamplona’s best and most VIP event. We offer the BEST viewing location in the entire square; right in front of and facing the town hall balcony where the honourable heads of the city stand before us, where the starting rockets are lit and blasted into the air to signal the beginning of the festivities. The emotion coming off the crowd is something you will never forget. The entire community, including many foreigners who come back again and again, become one at this moment. It is really something special to witness.

INCLUDES:

  • A meet up in Plaza Castillo with orientation to the Balcony event at 10:30am
  • A fantastic Fiesta brunch buffet which includes exquisite regional foods, and cava, wine, beer, sangria, cocktail and juices and soft drinks.
  • A photo shoot by a professional photographer for a lasting memory so that you can be totally engaged with the event itself.

THE RUNNING OF THE BULLS BALCONY EVENT

Dangerous below, safe above without missing any of the action. You are close enough to hear the clonking of the bulls’ hooves as they charge up the cobblestome streets of the old town. You are literally meters away. The tension in the air is palpable.  The rocket blast signals the beginning of the run. The bulls race by in a matter of minutes but unlike those below, you have the advantage of watching the rest of the bullrun live – as it is happening – by stepping back inside of the apartment and watching it on a screen. There is a lot more to the running of the bulls than initially meets the eye. Your guide will point out the particularities of each stage of the run and review the reruns in slow motion full of commentary by enthusiastic experts.

KEY LOCATIONS:

Our VIP balcony in Plaza Consistorial for the Bull Run is right in front of the town hall. It is a second floor making it the ideal viewing location.  You see the bulls enter the Plaza Consistorial from Calle Santo Domingo, cross the square, then continue up Calle Mercaderes, and watch them disappear to the left toward Calle Estafeta. You get the ultimate experience of the most dramatic stages along the course.

INCLUDES:

  • A meet up in Plaza Castillo with orientation to the Balcony event at 7:15am
  • A fantastic Fiesta breakfast includes oven fresh pasteries, fruit, yoghurt, cold cuts, Basque Paté, organic juices, coffee and tea, also has, because it is Fiesta, everything from wine and beer.
  • A photo shoot by a professional photographer for a lasting memory so that you can be totally engaged with the event itself.

FAMOUS VENUE ONLY IN SANFERMIN

LA CHURRERIA DE MAÑUETA

Once upon a time a family began a simple churrería business. A churro is a mouth-watering twisty elongated donut, showered in sugar. Over decades their business and their churros became famous. Today the family tradition is carried on but only during San Fermin when they open their doors to fiesta.

DANCING THE MORNING AWAY

THE ALPARGATA DANCE

For as long as we can remember, this exclusive event at this private club gives a taste of an old tradition where you dance to live Navarran music. This authentic venue in itself is worth the visit; being of the same epoch as the famous Café Iruña below of the 1870’s.

TAURINO TRADITIONS

APARTADO

In preparation for the bullfight, tradition dictates that before the bulls are fought in the afternoon, they are paired with that day’s bullfighters in a formal act called the Apartado. The opportunity to view this taurine event is exclusive due to the limit space to view the event. From above the corrals and with a drink in hand, we get a close up view of these magnificent beasts and watch them channeled individually through a series of runs, so the bullfighters can appraise the bulls’ form and stance before they are coaxed into individual pens, ready for the bullfight. This activity is applicable for children as there is no violence at all, and the kids can get just a closer look at the bulls.

BASQUE TRADITIONS

PELOTA MANO FINALS MATCH

Come with Heart to a finals Pelota match to get the full feldged locals experience. There is an uncanny festive atmosphere; San Fermin in a sports complex dedicated exclusively to this Basque Sport. It is a remarkably entertaining event that will give you some insight into the sports traditions of hand ball in the Basque tradition. The players play in two formats; one on one or two on two. Blues against the Reds and you can join in on the fun and bet on the winner(s).  We cheer for our team as we sip on cocktails (if you like 🙂

We tailor to fit

Coming as a family is a fantastic idea. There is fun for all ages, especially for the kids. Our culture gives a lot of importance to family and this is something easily understood and felt as you visit la fiesta.

children events with bulls

Mini running of the bulls

This fun community event has been created for the little kids (most children will be between four and 7 years old). The bulls are not real, but are handmade bull torsos that moms and dads push from behind to chase after the kids, like in the running of the bulls. The photo speaks for itself.

children events within the tradition

the giants and big-heads parade

We join a magnificent parade that kids and adults always love. It is a parade full of traditional characters. There are 8 enormous giant kings and queens that were made many years ago, in 1860. Every year in San Fermin the Giants come out to dance for us and so, we continue a tradition whose roots have been lost in time. They are made of a light wooden structure and richly dressed in elegant clothing. There are also other characters that form part of a colorful musical parade through the streets of the historic city. There are 5 big-heads called “cabezudos”. There is an entourage of 6 “kilikis” who are there to “protect” the Royalty, and they all have names; Barbas, Patata, Verrugón, Coleta, Caravinagre and Napoleon. There are also 6 half-men, half-horse called “zaldikos”, who also sometimes take it into their heads to “attack” any innocent young children along the route.

Rural Sports

This region is proud of its rural sports and a good way to see all the different ways they sport in Navarra, visiting the rural sports space created in San Fermin for all ages is a good place. You can view the traditions that stand strong in Navarra, like wood cutting or stone lifting.

toro de fuego

This region is notorious for its extraordinary community events. One of these is the Toro de Fuego which is where you a fellow acts like a bull and is carrying a metal bull structure. The structure is laden with fireworks that fizzy off while the bearer runs around trying to scare everyone. It is a lot of fun, especially for young teenagers, because they are the most valiant.
