THE OPENING CEREMONY

This experience is Heart of Pamplona’s most VIP event called El Chupinazo. We offer the BEST viewing location in the entire square where the opening ceremony takes place; right in front of and facing the town hall balcony where the honourable heads of the city stand before us, where the starting rockets are lit and blasted into the air to signal the beginning of the festivities. The emotion coming off the crowd is something you will never forget. The entire community, including many foreigners who come back again and again. It is really something special to witness.

THE RUNNING OF THE BULLS BALCONY EVENT

THE  PROCESSION

THE VENERATION OF THE SAINT

This monumental parade is in honour of Saint Fermin and is held at 10:00 am on the 7th of July, where the procession of Saint Fermin leaves from the church of San Lorenzo and is paraded through the city all the way to the Cathedral. FAMOUS SAN FERMIN VENUE

LA CHURRERIA DE LA MAÑUETA

Once upon a time, approximately 140 years ago, a family began a churrería business on the calle Mañueta (street) that became a popluar breakfast stop.  La Churrería de la Mañueta is the only one in Navarra that is entirely artisan and fried in caldrons fueled by firewood. A churro is a mouth-watering twisted elongated donut-like treat, showered in sugar. Today the business has become a family tradition is carried on from the grandaughter to her children and her children’s children and only opens during the 9 days of San Fermin. The atmosphere and its delicious churros are definitely worth the chance to view  and savour churros de Navarra.

DANCING THE MORNING AWAY

THE ALPARGATA DANCE

For as long as we can remember, this exclusive event at this private club gives a taste of an old tradition where you dance to live Navarran music. This authentic venue in itself is worth the visit as it is like floating into another era – the beginning of the century. This extravagant ballroom was open during the time of Hemingway’s first visits to Pamplona constructed in 1870’s.

THE PERFECT BRUNCH

LIVING THE FIESTA IN THE STREETS

San Fermin unites people and everyone is welcome. The locals and ‘local foreigners’ make everyone feel part of the Pamplona festival. San Fermin is not an onlookers event, but one in which you join in and become part of the fiesta; immerse yourselves in the festive spirit.

TAURINE TRADITIONS

PAIRING THE  OPPONENTS

In preparation for the bullfight, tradition dictates that the bulls be paired with their bullfighters in a fair way in an official and very social act called the Apartado. The is a fantastic opportunity to view an authentic and exclusive taurine event during the’vermout’. From above the corrals and with a drink in hand, we get a close look at these magnificent animals and watch them be channeled individually through a series of corridors below, so the bullfighters can appraise the bulls’ figure and stance before they are moved into individual pens. This activity is applicable for children as there is no violence at all, and the kids can get just a closer look at the bulls.

BASQUE TRADITIONS

THE PELOTA MANO MATCH

Come with Heart to a Pelota match to get the full fledged locals experience. The atmosphere is amazing. It is exciting, fun and truely an authentic experience.  Pelota mano (a kind of hand ball but different to what you might imagine) is a Basque tradition that is played in the north of Spain and in the French Basque country, as well as in some South American countries. During San Fermin they play a special tournament and the stands are packed, the bars are open and the gambling in favour of one player or anther as well. It is a remarkably entertaining event that will give you some insight into a sport you probably do not know, but that you would definitely appreciate. The players play in two formats; one on one or two on two. Blues against the Reds and you can join in on the fun and bet on the winner(s).  We cheer for our team as we sip on cocktails!!!

TAURINE TRADITION

THE BULLFIGHT

Thinking about joining us to the bullring? The bullfight in San Fermin is unlike any spectacle you are likely to see anywhere else in the world and is far from traditional. We offer both guided and self-guided bullfight events. The bullfighters are on horseback on the 6th of July bullfight, while the rest of the days from the 7th to 14th the bullfighter are on foot.

Where to sit – SUN OR SHADE: Probably the most important decision would be whether you want to be in the sun or shade. The experience is quite different, so make sure that you know what kind of experience you really do want. special atmosphere that is lived in the stretches of sun makes of the bullfights of Sanfermin a unique spectacle that you will not see in any other place of the world If you feel a little queasy about watching bulls and men in a ritual that leads to the almost inevitable of the bulls, think about choosing a seat higher up, say in Tendido. Maybe mid-way up is a better idea for you. However, if you want to get right into the action, then take the Barrera tickets, where you will not miss a thing!

TAURINE TRADITION

BULLS AND ACROBATICS

If you like the idea of attending an event in the bullring but prefer not to watch a bullfight, here is your experience. These young experts called Recortadores risk their lives to give us a spectacular show of agility and bravery as they confront one of the most dangerous animal alive. Bulls are very fast, but they men manage to keep from being tangled in the bull’s horns and under the pincher hooves. This event is about acrobacy, not challenging the bull in a duel to the death, therefore it is apt for children of all ages.

FIESTA OF FIREWORKS

VIP PARTY ON THE ROOF

As surprising as it may seem, the San Fermin international fireworks competition move more masses than any other event in San Fermin. Every evening at 23:00 the gardens of the Ciudadela and other corners of the city that allow locals and visitors alike to watch the fireworks gather in expectation. We offer guests the chance to see the fireworks from the heights of a rooftop, with a champagne glass in hand and delicious pintxos that make a light dinner.

SAN FERMIN IN LESAKA

A CULTURAL GET AWAY

The fiestas of Lesaka, which is a stone’s throw from the Atlantic ocean, coincide with the first days of San Fermin in Pamplona. Ironically, the Lesaka fiestas are also called San Fermin in honour of the same saint. It is less known than those of Pamplona, but for those who feel like experiencing another kind of San Fermin at a village level, this is a good option to enjoy an entirely different fiesta. The atmosphere is truely authentic where your will discover one of the most spectacular traditions of Lesaka: the ezpatadantzaris. Lesakarra dancers dance just one day a year, on July 7. These festivals are held from the 7th to the 10th.

Coming as a family is a fantastic idea. There is fun for all ages, and especially for the kids. The Navarre culture gives a lot of importance to family and this is something easily understood and felt as you visit la fiesta.

EVENTS FOR FAMILIES WITHIN THE TAURINE TRADITION

MINI RUNNING OF THE BULLS

This fun community event has been created for the little runners of San Fermin (most children will be between 4 and 7 years old). Naturally, the bulls are not real, but are artisanlly crafted bull torsos that moms and dads push from behind to chase kids, like in the running of the bulls. The photo speaks for itself.

TAURINE EVENTS FOR FAMILIES

BULL ON FIRE

This region is notorious for its extraordinary community events where the protagonists are the kids. One of these events is El Toro de Fuego which is where you run for your life (just joking) from a metal bull with human legs. The structure is laden with fireworks that fizz off while the bearer runs around trying to scare everyone. It is a lot of fun, especially for kids, and young teenagers. Honestly, you can literally get burned which is basically why everyone runs!!

EVENTS FOR FAMILIES WITHIN THE TRADITION

GIANTS, KILIKIS AND ZABALDIKOS

Join us as we take part in a magnificent parade that local families cherish. Every year in San Fermin the giants come out to dance in a delightful parade full of traditional characters and the Pamplona band La Pamplonesa. There are 8 enormous giant kings and queens that were artisanlly crafted in 1860 and are carefully handed and maintained by the Giants Association, which is community run. They are made of a light wooden structure and richly dressed in elegant clothing. There are 5 big-heads called cabezudos. There is an entourage of 6 kilikis who are there to protect the Royalty giants, all of which have their own names; Barbas, Patata, Verrugón, Coleta, Caravinagre and Napoleon. There are also 6 half-men, half-horse called zaldikos, who use sponge balls on strings to sling as many kids as they can along the parade route.

EVENTS FOR FAMILIES IN SPORTS

RURAL SPORTS

This region is proud of its rural sports called Herri Kirolak. San Fermin offers a fantastic opportunity to view the multiple rural sports in competition and exhibitions by the experts all in one place. These sports include axe log chopping and sawing, chain saw abilities, weight lifting (with stones), relay races with country materials, tug-a-war, among others.
